What this is

Hamburgwelle is an independent editorial guide to one place: Spielbank Bad Homburg, the casino in the Kurpark of Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe in Hesse. It collects what the casino and the city publish, and what reference works say about its history, in one readable place: how the casino works, what it costs to enter, what to wear, what has been played there and what stands around it.

Every statement on this site comes from a source we name on the same page: the casino’s own website for hours, prices, rules, games and its chronicle; the city of Bad Homburg’s Kurpark leaflet for the park; and the German Wikipedia articles on the casino, the town, the Schloss, the Saalburg and the Herzbergturm for the wider history. Where the casino describes itself in superlatives (“one of the oldest and most famous casinos in Europe”, “Mother of Monte Carlo”) we say so and attribute it.
